Americans Advance To Women's Gold Medal Final

As expected, the United States has advanced to the gold medal final in women's hockey.

USA downed Sweden handily by a score of 6-1. They outshot the Swedes 70-9! USA's Hilary Knight had 12 shots all on her own.

Megan Bozek and Brianna Decker led the way with a goal and two assists each. Kacey Belamy, Amanda Kessel, Alex Carpenter and Monique Lamoureux also scored. Anna Borgqvist had the lone Swedish goal.

USA will meet the winner of the Canada-Switzerland semifinal in the gold medal game.

While it is disappointing to see such a lopsided game in the semifinal, it should be noted there appears to be a narrowing of the gap in women's hockey in 2014. Blowouts will always happen, especially in such tourneys where goal differential can play an important role. But of the 12 preliminary games in women's hockey, 6 were decided by 2 goals or less.
