Eddie Rodden

Ed Rodden was a sensational playmaking center. But the undersized Toronto junior and amateur star could not find a permanent job in the National Hockey League.

Rodden debuted in the NHL in 1926-27 with the Chicago Black Hawks, scoring three goals and six points in 19 games. The following season he split his time between the Hawks and Toronto Maple Leafs, scoring another three goals and eleven points.

In 1928-29 he joined the Boston Bruins but was used sparingly, never picking up a single point in 20 games. He would finish the year in the minor leagues.

Rodden - the brother of NHL referee Mike Rodden - was out of the NHL altogether in the 1929-30 season, but that was okay as he dominated with the London (Ontario) Panthers of the IHL, leading the league in assists.

That allowed Rodden a return chance at the NHL with the New York Rangers in 1930-31. Unfortunately he still was used sparingly, collecting just three assists in twenty more games.

Rodden spent his summers selling stocks, and is believed to have remained in the financial industry after hockey. He passed away in October 1986.

Mike Rodden (Hockey Hall of Fame, Canadian Football Hall of Fame) and Ed Rodden were brothers!
Ed was my grandad, Mike was my great uncle.

Cheers!
