Great Moments In Hockey History: The Octopus



April 15, 1952: During Game 4 of the 1952 Stanley Cup Final, Detroit brothers and local fish market owners Pete and Jerry Cusimano tossed an octopus onto the ice at Olympia Stadium, beginning a tradition that has moved to Joe Louis Arena. The octopus' eight legs signified the eight playoff wins necessary to win the Cup during that era.
