Jean Beliveau In Hospital

Jean Beliveau is in Montreal General Hospital after suffering a stroke. He is being closely monitored, while the hospital, family and Montreal Canadiens are saying little about the condition of the 80 year old Hall of Famer.

This is the latest in a string of health problems for elegant Habs superstar. He has battled through cardiac problems in the 1990s and underwent radiation treatment for malignant tumours found in his neck in the 2000s. He battled through those treatments with the same class and dignity that defined him as a player and an icon in the community.

A stroke is perhaps the one thing that scares me the most. There are no warning signs. It can rob you of your memories and your personality, possibly long term. I can not think of another health problem that I would fear as much as that.

February is Heart And Stroke month. Please visit http://www.heartandstroke.com/ for more information about strokes, how to prevent strokestreatments and how to live with strokes, and special information for women. Also I would urge you to consider making a donation to the Heart And Stroke Foundation.

My mother-in-law passed away a couple of years ago from a sudden stroke. Best wishes to Mr. Beliveau and his family. He's certainly a legend.
