USA Women Win Gold

In a 2010 Olympic gold medal preview Team USA knocked off Canada in the the 2009 Women's World Hockey Championships. It is the second consecutive WC gold medal for the Americans.

The Americans are 4-2 against Canada in their last six meetings and are 3-0 in finals of their last three international tournaments.

Here is more from USA Hockey's website. At this stage USA has to be the Olympic gold medal favorites.

Of course here in Canada there will be much talk about how to get back on top. Already there is some talk about a coaching change, although it is originating from an unlikely source - head coach Melody Davidson herself.

Finland put in a dominating performance in the bronze medal game, downing Sweden 4-1. It is good to see Finland's female game at the same level as Sweden, and Slovakia's rapid ascent is also continuing.

The 2010 Olympics will almost certainly come down to Canada and USA once again, but the women's game is making global head way.
