Naslund's Legacy In Vancouver

Markus Naslund has signed a two year deal with the New York Rangers.

Naslund had spent the last 12 years in Vancouver, the last 8 of which he was team captain. He was popular and honest, a good person to represent the Canucks.

But his legacy is mixed. His offensive abilities combined with his length of tenure combined to see him lead the franchise in virtually every offensive career statistic category there is. But with no real hint of playoff success, many questioned his ability to lead the team to the next level.

Here's some questions for you to ponder:

Where does Naslund rank among the Canucks all time captains? How does he compare to Trevor Linden, Orland Kurtenbach, Stan Smyl or even Mark Messier, someone who Nazzy credits with teaching him how to lead?

Who will be the next Canucks captain? Willie Mitchell maybe?

Who will replace Nazzy's offense? Most of the big names are gone. It doesn't look like Mats Sundin is coming any time soon. Joe Sakic - that'll never happen. Second rate stars and aging has-beens won't cut. About the only name out there other than Sundin that I like is Brendan Shanahan, but that is probably a pipe dream.

I think Mike Gillis is going to seriously regret his promises of bold and immediate changes at his initial press conference. So far he's proven he can't get the job done.

And a couple of Rangers questions:

Is Jaromir Jagr done in New York?

Do you think Todd Bertuzzi will get a call from Glen Sather. Slats loves reclamation projects, and Bert and Nazzy are great friends.

Let's get the conversation started in the comments section below....
