1972 Summit Series.com

Long time readers of mine need no introduction to my original website - 1972 Summit Series.com. The site is loaded with great articles and features, many of which readers aren't even aware of.

September marks the 35th anniversary of the greatest hockey series ever played. Naturally, the hockey history blogger, that's me, intends to do quite a bit of cross posting over the next several weeks. I will be profiling series participants and directing you to historical features and writing my own new articles. I'll be showcasing many of my original articles as well.

I will also be keeping track of all the current day mainstream media and blogs who cover 1972 in any way. For this, I have created http://1972summitseries.blogspot.com/ in order to keep things simple and orderly.

I also plan on featuring the 1987 Canada Cup, as 2007 marks the 20th anniversary of the most exciting hockey tournament ever played.

So expect a lot of top end international hockey coverage here coming up. Which is fitting, given that the first ever Canada/Russia junior Super Series hits the ice on Monday, August 27th.

Following a similar format to the original Summit Series, the Super Series pits the top junior players from the two eternal rivals against each other. While the drama, intrigue and politics of the original Summit Series can never be duplicated due to circumstance, this Super Series featuring tomorrow's superstars like Alex Cherepanov and John Tavares promises to be incredible hockey. You can follow the headlines at http://1972summitseries.blogspot.com/ or http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/

The games will be co-broadcasted in Canada by TSN and Roger's SportsNet.

why are these series' 8 games? How does a team then win the series?

Hi Big Bros & Bigs Sis...

The reason why the Super Series has 8 games is because the Summit Series had 8 games.

In the event of a 4 wins each tie, I would think most goals for would be the tie breaker.
