Nikolai Maslov Passes Away

The IIHF is reporting that Russian hockey player Nikolai Maslov passed away on July 18th, 2017. He was just 57.

Maslov played for the Soviet Union in the 1978 under-18 European championship tournament (winning silver) and 1979 World Junior championships (winning gold).

Despite a 12 year domestic league career with his hometown team SKA Leningrad he never played for the national team as a senior.

Following the break up of the Soviet Union and the European Eastern Bloc Maslov extended his career by playing in Slovenia, Germany and Sweden. He retired in 1995.

Maslov returned to his hometown (since renamed St. Petersburg) and was a coach and higher-up in the local hockey association.
