Ron Howell

Ron Howell is the brother of Hockey Hall of Famer Harry Howell. Ron, too, was a tremendous athlete, but more notably in professional football over hockey.

Howell played in the Canadian Football League from 1955 through 1966. He played with the Toronto Argonauts, Montreal Allouettes and Hamilton Tiger Cats. In 1958 he was named the League's Outstanding Canadian player. Later in his career he played primarily on the defensive side of the scrimmage line.

However when the football season was over, the 6 foot, 185 pound receiver/defenseman/left winger played minor pro hockey. He played a lot of senior hockey in Ontario but also appeared in the WHL, AHL and EHL for parts of seasons.

Ron did appear in 4 NHL contests with the New York Rangers between 1954 and 1956 but failed to record a point. The Toronto Maple Leafs later signed Howell but he would never play for the team.
