Hockey's Rain Delay

Rain delays are a somewhat common occurrence in the world of baseball, but not so much hockey. True, the NHL outdoor games of recent years are subject to malcontent weather, but generally speaking the indoor arenas are pretty weather proof.

But on March 10th, 1995 the San Jose Sharks home game vs the Detroit Red Wings was postponed due to heavy rains. The rain caused the Guadalupe River to overflow, creating flood conditions in San Jose. While the arena itself stayed dry, many of the roads leading to it were washed out.
