Terry Sawchuk Documentary In The Works

Winnipeg film maker Danny Schur is in the process of making a documentary about the life of goaltending legend Terry Sawchuk.

David Larkins of the Winnipeg Sun has more:

Schur doesn't hold back his passion for Sawchuk's story. "There's all these characters from our history that we don't know, but they're right here," he said.

"General consensus is he was the greatest goalie ever and he came from here and I think the Winnipeg story's forgotten, so I'm making a documentary about his Winnipeg years. I find a lot of documentaries are too dry. This one, you will not be able to watch with a dry eye because it's such an emotional Winnipeg story."

Schur said Sawchuk makes for a compelling subject because of his upbringing in a poor, and strict, Ukrainian household that lead to a gritty hockey career that included numerous otherwise debilitating injuries, including 400-plus stitches in his face.

Here's the full Larkins story.
