The Curious Case of Jacques Contant and the Original Rocket Richard Trophy

This is the original Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy. As you can see it is quite the piece of work:

The Montreal Canadiens commissioned the trophy which incorporates Richard's 480th goal puck and his 325th goal skates. The trophy was to be presented annually to the Most Competitive Player in the Quebec junior hockey.

However the Habs mysteriously cancel the award after only one season. The only winner came in 1957 - a fellow named Jacques Contant, an bilingual player from Ontario who commuted from his home in St-Eugene, Ontario to play in Quebec.
