Freeway Faceoff - A History of Los Angeles Kings vs Anaheim Ducks


With their respective home rinks separated only by a short drive down the Interstate 5 freeway, the rivalry between the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks has been dubbed The Freeway Faceoff. It is a play on the similar geographic rivalry between Major League Baseball teams LA Dodgers and LA Angels of Anaheim known as the Freeway Series.

The Anaheim Ducks joined the NHL in 1993, setting up an instant rivalry with the LA Kings, who had been in the NHL since 1967. The two teams have met in 111 games, with the Kings holding a 51-48-12 edge. The two teams have never met in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
