Airbrushed yes, but why screw up the logo that much?

Could it be that the card companies did not want to pay anyone any royalties or copyright for the image and by ?airbrushing them, they "created" "original" materials, thereby skating for free.....? It appears that they didn't overpay for the "artists", with either.
