Santa Claus Brawl

On December 23rd, 2003 the New York Islanders offered a free ticket to any fan dressed in a red Santa suit. In addition, the fans would be invited down to the ice after the first period for "a holiday pageant."

Over 500 fans came dressed for the occasion, but one fan had a special gift for all the Islanders fans in attendance. On the ice one fan removed his Santa suit to reveal the jersey of the hated New York Rangers. The fan was attacked by several on-ice Santa Clauses.

The melee was a rare lead highlight on SportsCenter in the United States.

I remember that game and all the craziness. It's interesting though that the video is a highlight during the intermission of the Penguins/Rangers game. The Battle of New York is always a fun one to watch.
