Hockey History Photo of the Day: Bourque and Espo

Ray Bourque is remembered for wearing number 77 with the Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche, but it was not his original number.

Bourque wore #7 in Boston from 1979 through 1987. But the Bruins decided to retire #7 in December 1987 in honour of Phil Esposito. In typical classy style Bourque surprised the world by meeting Esposito at center ice, removed his #7 jersey to reveal the #77 jersey underneath.

No Boston Bruins player has worn #7 since.
