The Youngest Captains In NHL History

The Colorado Avalanche named 19 year old Gabriel Landeskog as their new team captain. In doing so Landeskog became the youngest captain in National Hockey League history.

Landeskog is 19 years and 286 days old. He bested Sidney Crosby as the youngest captain ever. Crosby was 11 days older when he donned the C.

Technically Brian Bellows served as team captain at an even younger age. He was 19 years and 131 days old when he took over the captaincy of the Minnesota North Stars in 1984. However it was only on an interim basis as regular team captain Craig Hartsburg could not play due to an injury.

Other young captains in NHL history include:

Vincent Lecavalier: 19 years 315 days
Jonathan Toews: 20 years 80 days
Steve Yzerman: 21 years 151 days
Jim Schoenfeld: 21 years 362 days
