1975 - Los Angeles Kings signed free agent Marcel Dionne from Detroit, along with defenseman Bart Crashley. The Red Wings obtained Dan Maloney and veteran defenseman Terry Harper as compensation from the Kings.

1998 - Don Waddell, the former assistant GM of the Detroit Red Wings, was named the first General Manager of the expansion Atlanta Thrashers.

1999 - Hockey Hall of Fame announced it's three newest members: Wayne Gretzky, referee Andy van Hellemond, and Ian "Scotty" Morrison.

2000 - Minnesota Wild and Columbus Blue Jackets held their expansion drafts, at the NHL meetings in Calgary.

2001 - Ottawa Senators traded center Alexei Yashin to the New York Islanders for defenseman Zdeno Chara, right wing Bill Muckalt and the second overall pick in the 2001 draft.

2001 - Calgary Flames traded right wing Valeri Bure and center Jason Wiemer to the Florida Panthers in exchange for center Rob Niedermayer and a 2001 second-round draft pick.

2006 - Vancouver trades Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan Allen and Alex Auld to Florida for Roberto Luongo, Lukas Krajicek and a 6th rd draft pick.
