Steven Stamkos: Fifty Goals Puts Him In Elite Company

The above video shows Steven Stamkos's 50th goal of the season last night against Boston. It is the second time Stamkos has topped the 50 goal mark, putting him in some pretty exclusive company. The only other players in NHL history to score 50 goals twice before the age of 23 are Mike Bossy, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Joe Nieuwendyk, Pavel Bure and Alexander Ovechkin.

The goal also pulled Stamkos into a first place tie with Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin for the NHL scoring lead (84 points). Both have to be considered Hart Trophy front runners (along with New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist) as league MVP, although Stamkos' chances will be diminished if Tampa misses the playoffs.

How many goals will Stamkos get before the end of the year? There is a chance he could reach 60. Ovechkin is the only 60 goal scorer this century.
