This Day In Hockey History: Dec 12th


1963 - Montreal beat the Rangers 6-4 in a game that set an NHL record for fastest 3 goals by 2 teams. Montreal's Dave Balon and Gilles Tremblay, and Rangers' Camille Henry scored within a span of 18 seconds early in the first period to set the record.

1970 - Orland Kurtenbach became the first player in Vancouver Canucks history to score a hat trick. He scored his only career hat trick and added an assist in a 5-2 win over the Oakland Seals, three months into the team's first NHL season.

1971 - Brad Park became the first defenseman in New York Rangers history to score a hat trick, in a 6-1 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. Park also picked up an assist in the game.

1981 - Ian Turnbull became the first defenseman in Kings history to score a hat trick (the second of his career) as the Kings won 7-5 over the Canucks. Turnbull finished the game with four goals.

1998 - Tampa Bay Lightning traded right wing Mikael Renberg and center Daymond Langkow to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for center Chris Gratton and center Mike Sillinger.
