Pucks On The 'Net: Presidential Edition

Love them or loathe them, you've got to give the Vancouver Canucks some credit. Their dominating regular season performance has seen them already capture the Presidents Trophy as the league's top team entering the playoffs. Most people will tell you that the trophy means nothing without at least a deep playoff run, but to dominate the regular season - and more impressively - the tough Western conference, is noteworthy.

I recently tweeted that I consider myself to be a knowledgeable long time fan, but that I really had no idea what the Presidents Trophy even looked like. A cheeky Detroit fan told me they knew, since the Red Wings have won it so often of late. But, aside from some Detroit fans, how many fans even know what the trophy looks like? I'm guessing not many.

For the record, here it is:

Here's some more shots on the 'Net:
  • They still have four games left to play, so this may change. But how impressive would it be to finish the season this way: The Canucks have scored the most goals in the NHL (253), allowed the fewest (177) and have recorded the top power-play and penalty-killing percentages (24.7% and 86.6%, respectively). No club in the League's 'expansion era' (since 1967-68) has finished first in each of these categories in a single season.
  • Daniel Sedin has had an amazing season, but how about a little love for Henrik.
  • Great to see the Islanders and Rangers media boycotting NHL awards voting as a show of displeasure over how Islanders beat writer Chris Botta was stripped of his credentials this season. The Vegas odds makers are re-adjusting their odds on Michael Grabner winning the Calder Trophy as we speak.
