Expect Road Teams To Do Well In Game One

For one reason or another road teams seem to do very well in game one of the opening round of the Stanley Cup finals. Last year 5 of the 8 series openers were won by the lower seeded road team. This year it would not surprise me to see a similar such start.

However winning game one of the Stanley Cup preliminary round is perhaps the least important game to win. According to WhoWins.com, road teams that win game one only have a historical record of 38-38 (.500) in best of 7 series. And they are only 24-52 (.316) when it comes to winning game 2 of the series.

Winning game one is a better omen for the home team. They have a 78-30 (.722) success rate in the series. They are also 66-42 (.611) in game 2s.
