Puck On The 'Net: Meanwhile, Over In Mannheim

North American hockey fans are all consumed with the NHL playoffs, but the World Hockey Championships are also going on in Germany. The World Championships have always been a bit of a farce and is considered by many to be a 2nd tier international tournament, and that is reflected by the significant amount of talent that turned down a chance to play for Canada.. That combined with the time zone differences and the presence of the NHL playoffs, North Americans have a tendency not to pay a whole lot of attention.

But there have been some interesting goings on over in Germany. Here's a few Slap Shots on the 'Net:

• Denmark beat Slovakia 6-0. They also beat Finland 4-1 and USA 2-1. Honest, it's true! And mindboggling. Peter Regen is Denmark's Gretzky.
• Perhaps even more earth shattering - The United States are now playing in the relegation round.
• It is the year of the upset at the Worlds. Germany beat USA 2-1 (in front of nearly 80,000 spectators), Norway beat the Czech Republic 3-2, and Switzerland beat Canada 4-1.
• Jordan Eberle continues to make his case to be included in the next edition of Legends of Team Canada.
• All Canadian games as well as all semi-final and medal games will be broadcast on TSN. Check here for broadcast schedules.
• Canada's games are also archived on TSN and are free to view.
