No April Fool's Day Joke

April 1st, 1979 marked a rare occurrence in NHL history.

The Colorado Rockies scored a wild 9-5 win over the St. Louis Blues in the final game of the 1978-79 season.

Making the game even crazier was the antics of goal judge Rod Lippman. He neglected to trigger the goal light on an obvious tally, then twice lit the lamp when the puck had not even come close to entering the net.

Lippman was so incompetent that referee Greg Madill actually had him ejected and replaced - a NHL first.
