Slap Shots: Unfulfilled Fantasies

Time to put the puck on the 'Net:
  • On Monday two rookie defensemen scored goals for the New York Rangers in a 3-2 win over New Jersey. Micheal Del Zotto and Matt Gilroy turned the trick, becoming the first two rookie defensemen scored goals in the same game for the Rangers since March 25, 1990, when the long since forgotten duo of Jeff Bloemberg and Miroslav Horava scored against the Flyers. Del Zotto's goal made him the youngest defenseman to ever score against Martin Brodeur.

  • Want to know what is wrong with the Canucks? After three games their leading scorer is Willie Mitchell. Luongo has not looked great, the defense has had some bad breakdowns and the forward lines lack cohesion and spark right now. But when Willie Mitchell is your leading scorer, you are not going to win many games.

  • Speaking of not scoring, why is it all of the players in my week-by-week fantasy pool fail to score, when the ones I considered but passed on put up good numbers? I think I'll adopt a new strategy and strictly pick the top players on teams who are facing the Canucks any given week. That way they won't score, and the Canucks might win!
