Canada's Team

The Vancouver Canucks are the only Canadian team still in the hunt for the Stanley Cup in 2009. Yet from today forward Canada's team is the Jim Balsillie Coyotes. And I still think it is unlikely that the Coyotes will be in Canada any time soon.

Ah, life in the west coast time zone in a country with an east coast dominated media....

Joe, this whole notion of a "Canada's Team" really is a crock. To think that just because one team is the only one left from Canada, therefore all Canadians are cheering for them is insulting to real fans. In my mind, a real fan has an allegiance to one team and one team only, and it cheapens your faith in that team if you start pulling for a "Canada's Team". Personally, I could care less if the Canucks win, and would actually rather them NOT win a Cup before my team does...yes I'm a Leaf fan, so it may be awhile. As well, the story of Balsille attempting once again to bring a team back to Canada IS actually bigger news than your Canucks taking a 2-1 series lead in a fairly boring game 3. Just some thoughts, interested to here your take...and keep up the great work.

crock or not, it was a reality when calgary, edmonton, and ottawa went on deep runs. no such word yet about Vancouver.

As a Canadian I'm all for cheering for Canadian teams once my Canucks are out.

As for the Coyotes story, yes it's big. But it also very possibly means very little. We will have to see how it all plays out.
