On February 6th:

1981: Wayne Gretzky scores 3 goals and 3 assists in a 10-4 Edmonton victory over the Winnipeg Jets, giving him 100 points in the season. So far this season Evgeni Malkin leads all NHL scorers with 79.

That's nothing. During his hey days Gretz would have his 100th point of season by early January. On three occasions he registered his 100th point before New Year's Day! His quickest year was 1983-84 when he scored point 100 on December 18th!

Also on this date in history:

1990: Brett Hull scored his 50th goal of the season, to become part of the first father-son combo to each score 50 goals in an NHL season. Brett Hull's dad is, of course, Bobby Hull.

2000: Wayne Gretzky's sweater #99 was officially retired permanently by the NHL, in a pre-game ceremony before the 2000 All-Star Game in Toronto.
