Bob Bourne Tribute

It's amazing what you can find on YouTube. Here's a fantastic Bob Bourne tribute:

In some ways Bob Bourne is a forgotten member of the great New York Islanders teams of the 1980s. Man could he fly! And he could drop the gloves too. I remember him and a young Scott Stevens in a classic tilt. I couldn't find that one on YouTube, though.

Here's an interesting tidbit I bet you didn't know: Bourne played one season of minor-league baseball with the Houston Astros organization's Class A Appalachian League team in Covington, Virginia. He batted .257 and was a teammate of Clark Gillies. Of course Gillies, who actually played 3 years of minor pro ball, was Bourne's teammate with the Islanders, too!

Check out the full Bob Bourne story.

He was also honoured in 1987 by Sports Illustrated as 1 of 8 Sportsmen of the Year ("Athletes Who Care").

Only Gretzky, Orr, and the 1980 US Olympic Team were so honoured by SI.
