Team Canada Alumni Society Forming?

Following countless successful alumni functions involving players from Team Canada 1972, it appears Hockey Canada is attempting to create some sort of alumni society for other Team Canada's of the past.

The first major step in this direction occurs in May, when Hockey Canada will host "Lunch With The Legends" in Halifax as part of the world championships. hockey Canada will gather together members from the 1976 Canada Cup squad. No confirmed names just yet, but high profile members of that team include Bobby Orr, Gilbert Perreault, Bobby Hull, Guy Lafleur, Phil Esposito and Darryl Sittler.

Good on Hockey Canada for creating such alumni get-togethers. Other than that 1972 team, it is extremely rare to see a Team Canada reunited in any form, therefore giving a once great team a chance to reacquaint, and giving us fans a chance to say thank you.

Think of it - the greatest team ever may have been that 1987 Canada Cup team. Including training camp, they were together for less than six weeks. After achieving the highest of highs, they've never been back together to celebrate or reminisce. Same will one day go for the magical 2002 Olympic Team.

That's just wrong. Bring them back together. Let the memories flow. Let history be celebrated.
