While names like Jari Kurri and Teemu Selanne are household names in North America, Finnish hockey fans are quick to point out Matti Hagman as one of the best players the small Scandanavian country has produced.Hagman was effectively a pioneer who made the road to North American success easier for players like Kurri and Selanne. In some ways Hagman sacrificed his own career battling stereotypes and bigots over here in North America.
As such he will never be remembered for his hockey abilities over here. But in Finland he is a true legend of the game he has devoted his life to.
