World Hockey Association

The man to the right is none other than Serge Bernier.

Before the Stastny brothers came to Quebec City, Bernier was arguably the Nordiques' hockey hero. Playing on one of the all time great lines with Marc Tardif and Real Cloutier, Bernier terrorized the World Hockey Association, finishing his career as that league's 4th all time leading scorer.

Every once in a while I get asked why I don't have a section for the greatest legends of the World Hockey Association.

I do have some WHA alumni featured here, but mostly players who also starred in the NHL. Players like Alton White, Mike Rogers, Anders Hedberg, Ulf Nilsson, and of course the WHA's biggest name, Bobby Hull.

But I've never taken the time to dedicate a WHA Legends section. Why? I'm not sure. I'm pretty busy with NHL and international legends. And, to be honest I've never been a fan of the WHA. Once you take away the top talent that they raided from the NHL, I always thought their league was pretty thin.

Regardless, fact is there were many legends of the World Hockey Association, and they need to be remembered. And since I'm not doing it at this time, I want to point out a blog that is.

Mark Willand has his WHA Blog, featuring WHA legends complete with his own video documentaries. It is a very impressive collection of work Willand has created, and all WHA fans need to check it out and invest a fair amount of time there.
