Konstantinov: 10 Years Later

The Detroit News has a must read story about the night the Red Wings will never forget.

It was 10 years ago today (June 13th) that changed the lives of all the Wings players forever. Just 6 days after capturing the Stanley Cup, a limousine accident nearly killed standout defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov and team masseur Sergei Mnatsakanov. Both suffered severe brain trauma. Konstantinov was in a coma for more than a month, and remains a shell of the rock-hard defenseman we knew him only as. Mnatsakanov has regained the ability to talk, but he's paralyzed from the waist down.

Check out John Niyo's piece at The Detroit News. It includes many quotes from Igor Larionov.

Also, check out my new Vladimir Konstantinov profile.
