NHL's Best Playoff Goalies

Over at ESPN.com, Adam Proteau lists his top 10 playoff goalie performances of all time.

1. Bernie Parent, Philadelphia Flyers, 1975
2. Billy Smith, New York Islanders, 1983
3. Ron Hextall, Philadelphia Flyers, 1987
4. Bill Ranford, Edmonton Oilers, 1990
5. Patrick Roy, Montreal Canadiens, 1993
6. Kirk McLean, Vancouver Canucks, 1994

7. Patrick Roy, Colorado Avalanche, 2001
8. Dominik Hasek, Detroit Red Wings, 2002
9. Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, 2003
10. Martin Brodeur, New Jersey Devils, 2003

Proteau's list is a fine list, but funny how 8 of the 10 are from the past 20 years, and the Smith and Parent selections are no-brainers, although shallow attempts at researching hockey history.

Digging a little deeper, what about Turk Broda in 1949. Or Chuck Rayner in 1950? The great Terry Sawchuk was especially strong in both 1952 and 1954 and especially Johnny Bower in 1963. And what about the unheard of minor league call-up Ken Dryden in 1971? You could also go really old school with deserving names like Tiny Thompson or Alec Connell.
